Bikram Choudhury, founder of Bikram Yoga, was ordered to pay $7.4 million by a Los Angeles jury last month. Choudhury was accused of retaliating against a female attorney who worked for him. The attorney claimed Choudhury fired her for refusing to cover up a complaint from another employee who claimed Choudhury raped her. The attorney was also harassed by Choudhury.
After hearing the evidence, the jury awarded the attorney $924,000 in compensatory damages and $6,471,878 in punitive damages.
Even if Choudhury pays the jury award, his problems are not over. At least five other women have sued him for sexual harassment and sexual assault. Some Bikram Yoga studios are removing his name from their studios.
