A bill to increase the number of workers’ compensation physicians that Colorado employers must designate for injured workers awaits Governor Hickenlooper’s signature before becoming law.
Originally, H.B. 14-1383 was pegged as a workers’ compensation reform bill. Instead, the bill will bring about a minor change to the workers’ compensation statutory scheme. Employers will be required to designate four physicians for injured workers to choose from, instead of just the two previously required. The bill goes into effect April 1, 2015.
The Division of Workers’ Compensation will likely update Rule 8 of the Workers’ Compensation Rules of Procedure to reflect the additional physician choices, and employers will need to update or revise their Rule 8 designated provider lists.
